Priceless Strand Test Tips For Home Hair Color

- Is this the first time you've ever colored your hair? Are you changing your hair color? Or do you simply want some assurance that the color you are about to use will give the result you want? A strand test takes only minutes, but the results are priceless.
Mix a teaspoon of the hair color formula that you intend to use on your hair. (Hair color is mixed 1:1).
- If so, first apply the hair color to the mid-section of the hair. Allow the color to sit for 15 minutes before applying to the roots and the ends then finally the roots for the remaining processing time.
- Due to body heat, hair color "processes" more quickly on the scalp than on the middle shaft and the ends of the hair. When changing the color after previous hair colorings, apply the hair color first to the scalp. (Hair color does not generally lighten previously colored hair.) Is your goal to take your overall color to a lighter tone? If so, a high lift hair color may be necessary to lighten your ends.

Generally color is applied to dry hair.
Now dry the strand. The hair will appear darker and more gold when wet so this is an important step when determining the true color.
